An Interview with My Mom, Gloria To
In honor of Mother's Day I interviewed one of the sunniest people I know, my mom, Gloria To.
A lifetime spent hustling paved Gloria's path to sales in real estate. Gloria is currently the head broker at Bay Realty in San Diego and credits her love for working with people for her more than a decade long career in real estate. Although she's had a string of businesses ranging from a beauty salon to selling cosmetics to her neighbors her top priority has always been her children. She was initially attracted to real estate for its flexible hours so she could spend more time with her three kids. Now her children are all grown up. Besides a keen business sense, Gloria also has an amazing sense of style and even better sense of humor so I thought that's where we'll focus today.
Q. What are 3 words that would describe your style? Are you a classic, trendy, artsy dresser or what style of dresser are you?
A. I am self-employed so I dress for the occasion. Off-duty you will find me dressed comfortably in jeans and t-shirt or athleissure wear. When I meet with clients, my style is more feminine. I will often wear a dress, heels, and a full face of makeup.
Q. Do you have a style philosophy?
A. Dress for your body shape. If you've got it flaunt it.
Q. Who or what inspires your style? Was your mom or grandmother an inspiration to you? Do you have any style icons?
A. I channel Sophia Loren's sultriness or so I've heard, but honestly, I don't have any style icons.
Q. What's your number one beauty tip?
A. Smile and be positive. It's important not to take yourself too seriously. Having a young spirit will always keep you young.
Q. What's your favorite shade of lipstick?
A. Anything with an earthy brownish tint works well for my skin tone.
Q. Do you have a favorite accessory?
A. I love statement rings with large stones.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom! And to all mothers out there, thanks for your hard work!
